How to Request
Each campus has an Accessible Educational Services (AES) office. Accessible Educational Services (AES) is the disability services office for IU Indianapolis, IU Columbus, IU Fort Wayne, School of Dentistry, McKinney School of Law, and the School of Medicine students. Procedures for requesting accommodations are listed in IU's Americans with Disabilities Act Policy (UA-02) (see paragraph B of the "Procedures" section).
Students can now request accommodations online with Accessible Educational Services! Simply point your browser to the Accommodation Request form to securely submit your information and upload your Pregnancy Documentation. You will receive a response from AES inviting you to schedule an intake appointment.
IU is committed to compliance with Title IX regulations regarding preventing discrimination based on pregnancy, childbirth, termination of pregnancy, lactation, related medical conditions, or recovery from these conditions.
Some examples of Title IX protections for pregnant students or students experiencing a pregnancy related medical conditions include:
- Allowing pregnant students to continue participating in classes and not requiring a doctor’s note
- Excused absences due to pregnancy or childbirth
- Allowing students to return to the same academic status before their medical leave began and allowing the student to make up any work that was missed while they were out.
Once students complete the intake process, AES will notity the instructors of the approved temporary accommodations. Students are encouraged to contact their instructors about the details of their assignments and make up missed work as needed.
