Dr. David Suzuki, together with Melanie Castillo-Cullather (Director, Asian Culture Center), Co-Founded the Asian Pacific American Faculty and Staff Council as an IU/IUPU system-wide organization. He currently is Professor Emeritus of Ophthalmology, Director of the Equity Institute on Race, Culture and Transformative Action at IUPUI, and teaches Asian American Studies. In the community he serves on the boards of the Race & Cultural Leadership Network and the Immigrant Welcome Center. Suzuki's education includes the University of California, Berkeley (B.A., Biochemistry) and UCLA (Ph.D., Physiology). His first faculty position was at UCLA in Ophthalmology. The majority of his research activities have been focused on sensori-motor neuroscience and supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Suzuki served for a number of years as both ad hoc and permanent member of NIH study sections. Currently, his research interests are in health and healthcare disparities in minority communities with a focus on immigrants and refugees.
