Kim S. Nguyen, Ed. D. was the first Asian American woman appointed Assistant Dean in the Purdue School of Science in 1998. She earned her BA in English from Sai Gon University, M.S. in Higher Education Administration from Southern Illinois University, and Ed. D. from Indiana University. Kim has been employed at IUI for 26 years and her work has touched lives of thousands of students. She has served as Financial Aid Advisor, Director of Financial Services, Coordinator for Academic and Student Affairs, Assistant Dean for Student Recruitment and Retention, and currently Director for Operations of the Urban Center for the Advancement of STEM Education (UCASE) in the School of Education. Kim has led the effort for increasing the number of minority students enrolled at IUI, especially in the Math, Science and Engineering fields through her work with the National Science Foundation's Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program since 2002. She is an alumna of the Bryn Mawr Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration and Principal Investigator of several grants from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, Central Indiana Community Foundation and the National Science Foundation. Kim was recognized an Outstanding Young Woman of America in 1982 and she agreed to serve as President of the Asian Pacific American Faculty and Staff Council (APAFSC) at IUI during the 2010-11 academic year.
